Description
In recent years, the importance of vitamin D has been widely publicized, and has been linked to many health benefits and critical for the maintenance of health and wellness. It is essential to maintain healthy vitamin D levels throughout all stages of life, from fetal development, newborns to the elderly. Vitamin D helps protect a number of important functions in the body including the protection against bone disease, and assisting in the proper functioning of the immune system. As more and more people are getting blood work done to measure vitamin D levels, many people have been found to be deficient in it, failing below the ideal blood levels of 50-80 ng/ml. An increasing amount of research is uncovering the link between vitamin D deficiency and many health conditions and diseases.
There are two main forms of vitamin D, vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol - found in plants) and Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol - derived from animal sources), generally from lanolin, the oil in sheep’s wool. It has widely been regarded that vitamin D3 is better absorbed than D2, and that a liquid form is better absorbed than dry form.

MCTs are efficient solvents and therefore act as excellent carriers for fat-soluble vitamins. Due to their smaller molecular size, MCTs are digested faster over long-chain triglycerides. They are hydrolysed quickly and, upon absorption, travel directly to the liver via the portal vein, bypassing the lymphatic system, to deliver the nutrients that are bound to them. For this reason, being suspended in a base of medium-chain triglycerides, the vitamin D does not require emulsification for absorption.
