GI Care Powder is comprised of well-researched botanicals, as well as the neuroprotective agent zinccarnosine, designed to promote healing and support the integrity of the gastrointestinal tract. GI Care Powder helps promote a healthy epithelium, protecting and restoring the cells lining the gastrointestinal tract through multiple complementary pathways, including reducing inflammation and intestinal permeability. Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) has been used clinically primarily for protecting the gastric mucosa from damage, acting through several mechanisms, including the upregulation of antioxidant enzymes, the inhibition of inflammatory compounds, and the inhibition of H. pylori growth.1–4 Chamomile and marshmallow both also possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory phytochemicals. Experimental evidence shows that chamomile has a protective effect on the gastric mucosa, and marshmallow promotes epithelial regeneration by the mucilaginous polysaccharides.5–9 Many experimental studies indicate that aloe vera gel improves wound healing and intestinal permeability, in part by upregulating tight junction complexes.10 Aloe also promotes intestinal barrier function and protective mucous production, and relieves intestinal injury, with clinical trials demonstrating histological and symptom improvements in gastrointestinal disease.11–14 Zinccarnosine has local anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, and promotes wound healing in response to various types of intestinal injury. Clinical trials show that zinccarnosine provides protection from gastrointestinal damage and intestinal hyperpermeability in response to anti-inflammatory medications.15–17
