Prunes are rich in iron, potassium copper, fibre (soluble and insoluble) and contain modest amounts of vitamin A, vitamin B3 and vitamin B6. Prunes are helpful with high blood pressure and constipation. It provides bulk and decreases transit time, thus decreasing the risk of colon cancer and hemorrhoids. Prunes' insoluble fibre provides food for the " friendly " bacteria in the large intestine. It increases butyric, propionic and acetic acid. The soluble fibers help to lower cholesterol by binding to bile acids, reducing the amount of cholesterol manufactured by the liver, and helps normalize blood sugar levels. Soluble fibre also increases insulin sensitivity and can thus plays a role in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes. This product is not concentrated like the Prune 4:1 found in the HERB section.
