Description

Boldo is widely known as a liver tonic. As a cholagogue, this bitter herb stimulates the production and excretion of bile from the gallbladder and treats liver diseases, also easing jaundice, hepatitis, and gallstones. It is an antiseptic and diuretic, used to treat genito-urinary infections such as cystitis, gonorrhea and syphilis.

Average dose is 100 mg daily.

Potential side effects/Safety

Avoid in pregnancy and lactation. Caution in liver and kidney disease. Avoid prolonged usage (greater than 4 months). Avoid concomitant use with alcohol. Drug interactions may exist.
