Description

Cascara bark is a safe laxative, and can be used for gas, liver and gall bladder complaints. As a tonic and bitter it speeds up the digestive process and promotes good digestion and appetite. May be useful as an antiviral that could be effective against herpes simplex virus II and vaccinia virus.

The average dose range of total hydroxyanthracene derivatives is 20 to 70 mg daily.

Potential side effects/Safety

Avoid in pregnancy, lactation, and in children. Avoid in intestinal obstruction, Crohn’s disease, appendicitis or abdominal pain. Generally well tolerated. Avoid long term use. Drug interactions exist.
