Description

The bark is useful as an anti-ischemic and cardioprotective agent in hypertension and in ischemic heart disease, especially in disturbed cardiac rhythm, angina, myocardial infarction, and CHF. It has a tonic effect in cases of cirrhosis of the liver. It is also used orally as a diuretic, for earaches, dysentery, venereal and urogenital diseases, and as an aphrodisiac.

Avoid in pregnancy. Generally well tolerated. Drug interactions may exist.
