L-Tryptophan 250 mg

Description

An essential amino acid, l-tryptophan is converted to 5-HTP and then to serotonin, and is used mainly for mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. Other uses include: insomnia, sleep apnea, myofascial pain, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), smoking cessation, bruxism, grinding teeth during sleep, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Tourette's syndrome, and to improve athletic performance. Taking vitamin B6 concomitantly may increase utilization of l-tryptophan.

Dose

For insomnia, take 500 mg to 2000 mg, 30 minutes before bedtime. For depression, take up to 3000 mg daily, away from other proteins.

Potential side effects/Safety

Avoid in disorders of the kidney or liver, and in cases of eosinophilia. Drug interactions exist. Major caution if used concomitantly with serotinergic medications.
